Sarah Lacy returned to her hometown Wednesday for a discussion of the state of entrepreneurship in Memphis.

Lacy, a former Memphis Business Journal reporter who is now editor at San Francisco-based blog TechCrunch, told the crowd that Memphians needed to "stop talking and start doing," The Commercial Appeal reports.

The discussion, attended by more than 600 people, was hosted by The Leadership Academy and sponsored by Independent Bank. It also was a promotion for Lacy's new book, "Brilliant, Crazy, Cocky: How the Top 1% of Entrepreneurs Profit from Global Chaos."

Lacy told the crowd about successful Silicon Valley business start-ups that put pressure on each other to invest in fledgling companies, according to the report.

"You need to put more social pressure on the successful business leaders in Memphis to do the same and invest in more entrepreneurial efforts," Lacy said.
