Embarker of the Week: Destini Jones
Embarker of the Week
Destini Jones - 2019 Embark Graduate
What are you doing these days to earn your keep? (As in, where do you work and what’s your job title?) Currently I am the Assistant Director of Health Professions Advising at Rhodes College
Where are you planting the seeds of your passion(s) in Memphis and why? I serve as the secretary and a devoted member of the Junior Achievement Young Professional Board. This experience has given me the opportunity to give back to the community and be a mentor to students. I want to be a resource to students who look like me and know that they too can be whatever they want to be.
What have you done to promote self-care and positive energy during this time? During this time I exercise daily to give me a peace of mind and as a stress reliver from my duties at work. I also have watched several series on Netflix. I almost finished with Gotham!
What plans do you have once the world opens back up to our new normal? Once the world opens back up I plan to go to the movies and traveling. I always wanted to go to Denver and that will be my first trip.
Let’s end the debate: Whose BBQ are you digging into after quarantine? (i.e. Memphis’ best) After the quarantine I will definitely be going to Central BBQ. I love their banana pudding!
What parting words do you have for your fellow Memphians during this challenging time? Trust the process, everything will fall into place.
What priceless gem did you takeaway from your Embark experience? From my Embark experience I learned a lot about myself and how genuine others can be when they barely know you. I found that my cohort members and the Embark staff are willing to help you succeed and lend a helping hand whenever you need it. Embark helped my transition to Memphis a lot smoother and now the city feels like home.
