About the Class:
We strive to ensure the makeup of our programs represents the diversity of our city. Fellows come to us from all industry segments, including public and non-profit organizations. We intentionally and strategically build each cohort with peers with diverse perspectives, leadership potential, and a passion to better themselves and their community. Cohorts are kept intentionally small (25-30 individuals) to encourage self-exploration and team building.

Personal Leadership Development and Foundations of Leadership
This 2-day seminar is designed in partnership with the Center for Creative Leadership. We use self-assessment tools to empower participants to leverage their personal leadership assets, overcome barriers to success and identify key areas of growth for the coming year.
Skills Workshops
This series of workshops hones the Fellows’ skills related to communications, conflict, inclusion, design-thinking, and learning styles.
“Real Deal Government” Sessions
Learn how to get things done in Memphis through this 2-part seminar about navigating the local political and non-profit environment. As part of the experience, Fellows work in teams to present to diverse audiences in high-intensity scenarios.
Team Trek
Fellows cement their relationship with a diverse network of remarkable peers at this team building retreat featuring a series of complex outdoor simulations focusing on trust, collaboration, decision making and problem solving.
Community Action Project
Fellows put their newly developed leadership skills into action through a Community Action Project (CAP).
Community Action Project (CAP) Design
The planning and design process of the Community Action Project comes early in the program through a series of events including Real Deal Nonprofit, Peer Exchange, CAP Consultation and Review Boards. Seasoned community leaders mentor the Fellows throughout this process at these events and one-on-one.
The Fellows implement the CAP as defined in collaboration with a non-profit CAP host during the final six months of their Fellows engagement. There are currently more than 150 CAPs transforming Memphis.
