Welcome to Memphis! New Memphis works diligently to make the city’s assets visible and attractive to our new or returning resident. As a part of those efforts we host a series of events throughout the year for you to explore the city and make connections that ultimately create a sense of belonging. We are here to help you get plugged into your new city. We hope to see you soon! Again, welcome to Memphis.

"The wonderful resources and the warmth of Memphians has surprised me. People here are so open and caring. The many nonprofits organizations exemplify that. My advice to a newcomer would be to open yourself up to new experiences and people – soak it all in. Memphis is a great city! My favorite local spot is The Asian Garden at the Botanic Gardens."

-Beverly S.

"One thing I’ve learned about Memphis is how up-and-coming it is because of the young professionals in the area. They really want to change Memphis, and I’m all about that!"

-Markie M.

"What I like most about Memphis is its people. They are so warm, inviting and willing to go out of their way to help you and make you feel apart of the family. Be open minded and the city will win you over. Hidden gems are everywhere. My favorite local spots include Alchemy, Elwood’s Shack, and Otherlands Coffee."

-Jamar W.

"The amount of growth and revitalization of areas surprised me when I moved back. My favorite local spot is Babalu, for sure, or even just the midtown area in general."

-Milira D.

"When I first moved here, I did not do much besides go to school and hangout with family. Once I started venturing out on my own, I discovered a huge diverse community of people with whom I can enjoy common interests. I am glad I started venturing out on my own! It’s a large city but has the feel of a small city. So, you are able to actually build long-term and stable relationships with others while gaining access to a wide variety of people with different backgrounds. My favorite local spot is Young Avenue Deli."

-Rafi C.

"Our impression of Memphis before we moved here was friendly people, small-town feel with the amenities of a city, and of course BBQ. But we've been surprised by the incredible music scene and the awesome food. I've definitely realized that Memphis can be whatever you want it to be – there’s something here for everyone. Be willing to travel to different unknown neighborhoods, lots of hidden gems. "

-Sarah C. and Matt M.
